Full House Re-Wiring FAQs
How long does it take to rewire an HDB Flat?
The duration to re-wire an HDB flat mostly depends on the size of the flat. Furthermore, the extent of modification and renovation also affects the duration. Typically, for a 3-room HDB flat, it will take 3-4 days with 2 people on the job.
What is included in full-home re-wiring?
A full re-wiring typically includes:
- New electrical cables throughout the house
- Circuit separation for safety and proper load balancing
What is the lifespan of electrical wiring in HDB flats?
For HDB flats, the electrical wiring has a limited lifespan. On average, PVC electrical cables last about 15-20 years. However, the overall lifespan depends on factors such as the type of electrical wires used and the quality of installation practices. Electrical wires can last a very long time as long as the current remains within safe limits.
Do I need re-wiring for a resale HDB flat?
In many cases, yes. Older resale flats may have aging cables, insufficient power points, or wiring that is not suitable for modern appliances such as air-conditioners, ovens, water heaters, and induction cookers. Re-wiring helps improve safety, convenience, and long-term reliability.
Do I need to move out temporarily while the re-wiring is taking place?
Yes, you need to move out because it will have dust or dirt during re-wiring.
What is included in the electrical wiring quotation?
Our quotation prices are based on surface trunking with PVC casing as the standard installation method. If you prefer concealed wiring, an additional $40 per point will apply. All points are treated as new installations – no existing wiring remains. We provide Safety Mark certified light switches and power point materials as part of the service.
When is the electrical work scheduled?
Electrical work should be scheduled before the carpentry is installed. After the carpentry is completed, we will return for one trip to install lights, fans, and faceplates. A separate day will be arranged for the final installation of lights and fans.
How should I prepare for the work?
To ensure the project runs smoothly, please have all your items (lights, ceiling fans, smart switches, power tracks, etc.) ready on-site once the carpentry is complete. An extra trip fee of $80 will apply if items are missing or if additional site visits are needed beyond the agreed schedule.
What if I am supplying my own lights and fans?
All client-supplied items must come with their own warranty. We are not responsible for faulty or defective items provided by you. If an item is defective, you will need to handle the warranty claim with the brand or seller directly. Labour fees may apply if reinstallation is needed after a product replacement.
